Lake Karapiro Fun

Week 8 was the best! Purely because we went to LAKE KARAPIRO. Anyway i was in group one lucky number one.

First we went to kayaking and raft building. kayaking was okay but raft building was the best we had loads of rope, bamboo and two of the inflatable donuts .

We used the rope (lots of rope) to tie the two inflatable donuts together and the bamboo.

We were lucky it managed to float we had to use two tiny paddles to move 7 of us on a reasonably large raft which was hard.

We made it to the end we were elated over the moon we didn't manage to sink.

Topic-Collaboration

Recently In room 15...
We had to do a hard,  fun collaboration experiment, our group and others had to build a long tower, using only scissors, tape, and 3 cardboard pieces.
Currently, our group had the lead with the tallest, and stable tower.
The interesting fact about our tower, is that we did not cut our paper, a pretty easy thing we did was combine our 3 pieces of paper into one big tall tower.
Pretty interesting to me.
We also had to collaborate, meaning we show resilience, resourcefulness,
keep our roles, and stay awesome!
It was a super fun and collaborative activity!
In the photo: Chris, Matthew (me), and Alex!
Make sure if you want to see other group's tower, go visit other blogs and stay awesome!

Building a tower

To build our tower Miss Wyllie gave us 1 meter cello tape, 1 pair of scissors and 2 sheet's of A2 paper.

The difficult part was what ever we did to make it stand it wouldn't work but the easy bit was we were able to collaborate and we were showing resilience we never gave up.

To make a good collaborator you need to have good communication,Leadership Skills,Be a leader that you would like to follow,Be a leader not a follower,Letting everyone have a equal turn,Listening to others idea's,Do your part,Be a supportive leader and Respect others so they can do it back.

Building Towers

To build our fabulous tower we used 2 sheets of A2 paper and one strand of 1 meter cello tape and the last resource we used is one pair of scissors. It wasn't that hard working with your team it was easy  but sometimes some of us are bossy but is still okay we work like a group of penguins surviving in the freezing cold.To be a great collaborator is to listen to people's ideas,be a supportive leader, work well with others, when you disagree in a respectful way, share your ideas to other people, following the rules, speaking friendly to others and be a leader that you would like to follow.

Tower Building

We were given 3 pieces of paper, one long strip of tape and scissors.
It was nearly going to fall a lot. there were two people in the team.
I tower was long which means we still worked as a team...
but it still fell down.

What makes a good collaborator?

Collaboration

Being kind and caring.

Being a roll model to kids.

Being a good big kid to little kids.

Building Towers

This photo here is when we all collaborated in teams to make the highest but stable tower .We were not allowed to hold onto the tower. We were only allowed to use the materials that we got.We got tape, scissors and only three pieces of paper.First we started off by telling each other our ideas and trying to make like a long stick. Everyone had a lot of ideas maybe a bit too much.We stuck with one idea and just kept going. At first we where going to give up but our fellow team members told us to keep on going. I thought that it would be easy but it was really hard. We where getting confused. But we kept going. Unfortunately our tower didn't stand up properly but it was the tallest. Being a good collaborator is patience and listening to others ideas. Miss Wyllie took photos to remember this in the future.

COLLABORATION

What makes a good collaborator

Be a supportive leader.

Include everyone.

Be a kind leader.

Be a leader that you would follow.

Listen to people's ideas.

Be a role model.

Help others.

Respectfully refuse if you disagree.

Grand Eiffel Twin Tower!

Not too long ago now we did a Team building collaboration activity.

This involved making a tower out of these materials: 3 pieces of card, 1 Metre of cello tape and 1 pair of scissors. This *may* sound easy but it was super hard!

The tallest tower would win. My group had to figure out how to make it tall and how to make it stand on its own.

Me,Oliver,Anthony and Rose had lots of trouble so we made a more of a structured tower rather than a tall one. We made the  Grand Eiffel Twin Tower!

Making it stand was super hard but the most easiest bit would have to be designing.

To collaborate we had to listen and communicate to each other which also meant we were good collaborators!

We may not have won but we sure learnt how to collaborate!

Hot activity

One hot crispy day Miss Wyllie gave room 15  a hot hot activity.  I was going to cry.
We went outside to the courts to do the activity.  Miss wyllie split the class in two. Then Miss Wyllie  chose the leaders and the guesser.  I got to be the guesser. Then I got be leader after that. The guesser did not get what I was trying to get the team to make the word 'fun' but the other team got that. Then we went back into class to pack up  for the end of the day.

A crisp hot day-tabloid sports

"NGATA NGATA!" roared my team. Salty sweat was dripping down my face, I was eager for a drink of water.
I could see massive heat waves beating down on the school field, the green grass instantly turned into             dry crisp grass.

The freshly mowed grass smell spread through the whole school but the worst smell was salty sweat.

The rough grass burned under my feet, it felt like hot hard rocks.
I felt like melting ice cream on a hot summer's day, i was absolutely boiling!!

Tabloid sports recount

A Screaming hot day

Standing in the fresh grassy field my lips touched the icy crispness of my water. The sweltering hotness of the pale sun covered me. The fresh grass smelt like it had a shower.

I could see parents swarming their sweaty children. The onion smelling BO lingered around me. The sound of cheering came closer.

My eyes burned as the fiery sun shone as if it was a volcano. The chirping of birds and cheering slowly died away.

My Time in Room 15

INTERESTING - Something interesting for me that has happened so far would have to be do our summer picture because I learnt new skills like how to draw layers on and in things.

CHALLENGING -Something challenging that has happen for me so far was trying to adapt to the freezing cold pool. The pool is so cold it is like Antarctica.Once you get in it starts to get warmer and then you jump under and it is still freezing cold but it is much warmer that it was when you hopped in.

LOOKING FORWARD TO- I am looking forward to swimming sports because i have been practising heaps and heaps.

Swimming

At swimming we have been trying to get freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke correct. Miss Wylie has been an awesome teacher because she is  trying to get us use to the water by playing games and doing whirl pools. I can't wait  for swimming sports next week its going to be awesome.

Swimming By Rose

At Swimming we have been learning how to do Breaststroke correctly.

First we warm up by doing fun games that Miss Wyllie leads out of the pool, then we have 40 seconds to hop into the freezing cold pool. Next we start doing our brilliant breast stroke legs then we start our arms.

After we complete our breaststroke for the day we jump out really quickly because it is so cold in the pool. Then we go and get changed in the changing rooms.

Frozen

"Its warm as guys warm as!" "Yeah right Miss Wyllie," we all say aloud.
"Its FREEZING" we say shivering " Told ya so" said Miss Wyllie!

Lately room 15 and 14 have been swimming in the most coldest pool of all eternity! I mean its freezing.

Room 15 and 1have been learning freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke. It is so fun but also very very hard because you have to learn how to do the arms and legs correctly! In one week all us seniors will be competing in Swimming sports woo!
